How Much Money Does A Small YouTube Channel Make? | Full Income Report Since Joining The YPP

Youtube video transcript

So I got this comment from a guy who said, Hey, when you monetize your YouTube channel, you’re probably gonna forget about blogging, right? Because you’ll be making so much money. How much money does a channel like mine make? That’s only recently become monetized, actually that’s what we’re gonna talk about today.

So let’s get into it. Hello, YouTube and a very special hello to all my subscribers, my name’s Phil. And welcome to my channel where I document my journey, building an online income, hopefully helping you with your journey too. So I just wanna give a couple of numbers to do with how much money a channel like mine does make.

When it’s just become monetized. So I’m probably about two months into this and it’s made some money, but it’s not as much money as you would think because of one small change. So we’re gonna jump into the computer now and I’m gonna show you exactly how much money I’ve made, how many views I’ve had, all those kind of figures, just to help you gauge how much money you should be making, and hopefully make a few of you feel really good about yourselves too.

So let’s jump into the computer and do that. So I managed to get to the monetization stage to join the YouTube partners program on this channel, back on the 16th of September. So if we just look at all the numbers, in terms of revenue, it got a total revenue. Since it’s been monetized of $287 64 the RP.

Only about $4. And then the playback based M which I’m not really sure what that is exactly, but that says it’s 34 89. So there’s a little bit of a history behind this. So if we look at each month, so the first September the 16th or the 30th it actually made $43 just over that.

And you can see the numbers there. 4,000 views and all the watch hours and things like this. The next month, October. This was when I obviously made a lot of money. Twice as many views, but it made an extra a hundred dollars. So $140, 68 in one month. And obviously there’s a lot more people watching the channel in that month.

Then I made a change. I actually took out the Midroll ads because of a request, which I’ll talk about later on. . And so that brings us onto November where it was about nearly 2000 views, more than September, that first 16 days. And it made $82 not too bad for a channel of this size, I think.

And then finally, just the last six days it’s made about $21. So I think basically there is something with this channel where I’m getting a. Less traffic, a lot less views. Obviously. I need to make a change. It’s either YouTube. Doesn’t like me, or I’m not doing something to serve you guys enough.

So if you have any suggestions, don’t hesitate to tell me what I can do to improve. So that’s about as much money as I’m making on a channel of this size with this amount of views. So you can compare that to what your YouTube channel’s doing and whether or not you should be happy with what you are making.

Or if there’s something you can do to improve your revenue. So let’s just talk about this idea of how many ads you should have. I did get this comment from a viewer who she was saying, there are quite a lot of ads on my channel and she liked the actual content, but the fact that there were so many mid roll ads coming up, it made it a bit frustrating to watch.

So when I saw that comment immediately, what I did. Take off the Midroll ads. So I hadn’t really optimized ads at that point. I just wanted to see how much money I could make now. It’s a bit of a debate really because obviously. As a creator, I think that people should be paid money for stuff that they create because this may just be like a five, 10 minute video.

But behind that, it probably takes several hours to make, to plan, to edit, to upload, especially with my slow internet connection at the moment. So I definitely think that content creators should be rewarded for the content they put out. And I think any of you watching who create content, you’d probably agree with that.

What I do take issue. Is the kind of channel where they just upload a TV series that they probably don’t have the rights to do. And they just put ads every one or two minutes or something like that. And also those kinds of people just I dunno, they recycle content.

They haven’t actually produced themselves. Those kinds of people. I don’t like to watch the ads, but everyone else who’s making their own content. I definitely would. Be happy to watch the ads cuz I know how much work goes into it. However I know that YouTube is really pushing ads right now, especially the mid rolls.

It seems like every video I watch you get five, six in a 10 minute video. So I personally chose not to put the mid rolls in because I think it really does damage the user experience and. To be honest, if you annoy people too much, they probably won’t come back to your channel, but that’s the choice we all have to make.

I’ve chosen to actually go for less money, but to improve the user experience. And I think this is not really down to the content creators. It’s down to YouTube. I think they’re really trying to push people onto their paid membership where you get, I think it’s called YouTube premium. Where you get no ads and all that kind of thing.

So that kind of explains why in the first month of being monetized, I made a lot more money compared to the following months. So I guess this video’s been helpful so far, if it has, don’t forget to give me a and if you like, what this is what I talk about on this channel all the time. So why not subscribe if you’re not subscribed already?

The last thing to say is don’t forget about that free competition to win a free membership to Project 24. Now, if you’ve never heard of Project 24 before, it’s a full course that will teach you everything you need to know about starting an internet business in blogging or YouTube, it’s been produced by income School and it’s.

Probably one of the best courses out there now. I haven’t taken every course out there, but I certainly have taken this course. I’m about 18 months into the course at the moment. And it’s just helped me in so many ways. So this is why I think it’s a good prize. So don’t forget all you have to do to enter that competition is just the answer to the question in the comment section.

What would you like to see on this YouTube channel? What would be a good topic for a video for me to make? If you do that, I’ll put your name into the hat and you could win. Okay, guys, I will see you next video. Don’t forget. Success is coming. You just gotta publish more.
