Project 24 Case Study: Month 14

Youtube video transcript

Can you imagine standing up on a stage in front of 13,000 people and explaining something to them? It sounds impossible, right? But if you do that behind a computer screen, it becomes much easier. So stick around and hear what happened to my third site this month. And by the way, it all happened with zero backlinks.

They go. Hello, YouTube and a very special hello to all my subscribers, my name’s Phil. And welcome to my channel where I explain my journey, building an online income. If you’re joining me for the first time, Hey, why not become a subscriber? So today I’m gonna give you my month 14 update. And this is especially for AB edits, cuz he requested it in the comments today.

Sorry. It’s a little bit late. And also I’ll be talking about two other sites, which are only nine months old. And the interesting thing is that my third site has suddenly overtaken everything else. So make sure you stick around for that. I’ll be sharing Google analytics, numbers, search, consult numbers, and also how much money I’ve been making.

The other thing I want to talk about, especially if you’re joining me for the first time, is exactly how I’m doing it. So I’m gonna be selling you. Project 24 and why it’s really changed my life. So don’t go anywhere, guys. Let’s jump into that computer, okay. So here we are on the computer and let’s talk about those three sites.

So for site one, which is my main Project 24 site, I wrote most of the articles myself, but in recent months I’ve been outsourcing some articles to my writers. But as you may have heard in a previous video, one of my writers, just the standard of his writing, just went downhill very quickly. And I avoided editing what he’d written, which was a shame because he had written the bulk of the articles that I outsourced for this site.

But bit the bullet earlier this month and I managed to get seven of those articles edited, but it took me much longer than I had to. This is really a lesson to make sure that you keep your writers motivated and you don’t get swamped so that you can’t spot when they start to.

Drop off the edge in terms of quality. So this site has 79 response posts, which would take about 150 hours to write 21 staple posts, again, 84 hours to write, and still only 11 pillar posts at 88 hours to write. So I’ve put a lot more effort into the response posts, which possibly could be a mistake.

Maybe I need to reevaluate the kind of post that I’m writing for this site, but that gives us a total writing time of about 330 hours, unless I’ve made a mistake with the math, so I did outsource 13 articles in total and that cost me just over 350 us dollars. And again, it’s still got the YouTube channel with only 13.

Videos, but I’ve started to embed videos into the articles and slowly I’m getting one or two extra subscribers without really doing anything more with the YouTube channel, which is quite interesting. So this is monetized with Amazon links and is Zoe links. And to be honest, it’s the only site making any money.

And we’ll talk about that a little bit later on in this video. So let’s look at the stats. Let’s look at the Google analytics and the Google search consult for this. Okay. So for the month of July, this site got 10,701 page views, and you can see that about 88% of those were organic. And you can see all the details here from unique page views to the average time on page, which is somewhere between.

Just under six minutes to just over six minutes. And the bounce rate is around 89%. To be honest, if you look at this, it’s just plateaued. So I started off on the 1st of July with around 293. Total page views and ended it with 294 . So this would be a brilliant position to be in if perhaps I was at, a hundred thousand page views just to see it just plateau out, but obviously I’m trying to build this.

So for it to plateau at 10,000, 11,000 page views, not great, obviously something’s going wrong. And I think maybe it’s the fact that I put a Zoic ads on and probably that I don’t really know exactly what I’m doing there. Maybe I’m making a few mistakes. I’ve gotta find the time to really train myself, to figure out what’s going wrong.

But if we just compare this to last.  You can see that last month it got 10,630 page views, so less than a percent difference. So this has been plateauing for a number of months. So it’s something that I need to figure out because there’s no way that I want to leave this at this kind of level.

I don’t know what’s happening, but I will figure it out. If we look at the Google search consult for the first site here you can see that I’ve got about 7,000 clicks. It’s had 150, 2000 impressions, which give, gives me a click through rate for the last 28 days of. 4.7%. And the average position is 23.4, but I did put a couple new articles on that.

So then maybe that dilutes it down a little bit, but you can see how it’s pretty much plateaued again. Possibly. You can see at the end here, it’s going up a little bit and I have to admit in August, things are improving just a little bit. So maybe it was just a question of, I needed to put more content on this site, but that’s what’s happening for site one.

Why don’t we have a look at site two. So for site two, to be honest, there’s not much to say because I haven’t really put anything more on it, but things are changing. So in terms of content, it’s still only got 34 posts. The 20 are response posts, the nine staple posts and five pillar posts. So this was a site which I used really for training my writers.

So that’s why there’s more response posts than would be recommended in the. 60 steps where you try and have at least 10 posts from each of the post types. And also I have to admit that my search analysis on this was very rushed and this is being propped up by about two or three posts, which are bringing in most of the traffic.

This is on the back burner. Yeah, I haven’t really done much to this site, but if we look at the traffic, things are still happening. So for the month of July this site got 1,834 page views. And again, most of them were organic page views, 95% accessed here. And the time on the page is around sort of six minutes again.

So both sites one and two are showing similar sort of. Stats with the time on page, perhaps the bounce rate here is a little bit higher and you can see that it’s fluctuating throughout the month, but if we compare this to last. So in terms of growth, this has actually got 40% growth from the last month.

So in June the site got 1,305 page views compared to the 1,834 this month. So it is growing slowly and surely. So perhaps this is something I do need to find the time to come back to and start adding content. So for next month, so September. There is the content warrior challenge. Perhaps I should take out a bit of time to add a couple of articles to this one, from my own.

This is definitely one to watch. So looking at the Google search console, you can see that it got a 1.4, three Cade clicks. Just over a thousand clicks, it’s getting nearly 12,000 impressions and it’s getting a click through rate of 12%, which is quite interesting. The only thing here really is the average position.

It seems to have dropped off at the end of the. But perhaps that’s gonna recover, but I’m happy to see that even though I’m not really doing anything to this site, it doesn’t have a lot of content on it. And to be honest, a lot of the search terms I went for were too competitive with what I wrote and what I was targeting is still growing over time.

So site three, this is the really exciting one. And it’s a little bit unexpected for me. To be honest, it’s not really a niche that I would see. Doing it for a long time. I just wanted to try out a theory. I think I thought this could be a popular service niche, and it turns out that it is. So again I had a lot of content on this, which I hadn’t been editing because I had about over 20 posts that were just in the draft phase.

But I now have 57 posts on this site. So I managed to put in another four. In July, but they were much longer posts, more the staple and pillar post content. So it takes a little bit longer to edit, although the writers. Including the writer who didn’t do very good quality on the first site.

Generally the posts were better quality. It just needed a bit more than just those extra kinds of tables, presenting the information in a little bit of a better way. Mainly it’s just formatting making everything look a bit better, but easier to navigate. That’s what I really spend my time on.

So this one’s got 27 response posts. 21 staple posts, nine pillar posts. So that would be about 210 hours of writing time. And I’ve actually spent $2,700 give or take on this. And it’s making no money, but in the last couple of days, I’ve actually put on my own ads using affiliate links.

To see if I can get people to click cuz up until now, I’ve had a couple of affiliate links on sidebars and things like that, but I’m trying to put a few things within the content. So I’m gonna try something out and see if it works. If it can start making a bit of money, but this is the one, this is the site that I really wanna put.

In the info product on I’m. I’ve got an idea for an ebook and it’s something I’m gonna try and write in the next couple of months and to start making money from this because the traffic is just crazy. Site three is now my best performing site. So whereas site one is about 14 months old. This one’s only nine months old.

And again, it doesn’t have any backlinks. I haven’t spent any time even promoting. I haven’t touched social media, nothing like that. And it’s bringing 13,178 page views in total. And again, it’s getting 95% organic traffic, and this is just purely. It’s organic, it’s happening without me trying to promote it at all.

So the time on page is a tad lower than the other two sites at about five minutes and 45 minutes and 50 seconds. And the bounce rate is somewhere between site one and site two. But if we compare this to last. So last month in June, I got 9,639 page views and that’s up 36%. This one just keeps growing and growing.

And maybe the difference is that I didn’t put ads on it. Now I am eligible to put Ezoic on this. I’ve already applied for this site. It’s ready to go. All I need to do is put the placeholders on to change the name servers and everything like that. But I’m thinking what if I hold out?

What if I hold out until I can get onto media vine or media VI, as I like to call it for some weird reason? What if I hold out to get to those 50,000 sessions? How long would it actually take me to do that couple of months? Would it be worth doing that more quickly and getting perhaps a higher revenue per thousand clicks per thousand pages?

Or if I put a Zoic on it, would it slow down? Would I get the same kind of plateau effect as I did on site one? I think it’s worth, for 20, 20 ish dollars a month in ads, which that’s what it would be. Maybe it’s better to hold off and wait to get to that. 50,000 sessions and see if I can earn more money that way.

Okay. So let’s look at the Google search consult. So for this site, it’s got apparently 10,000 and 500 clicks. It’s getting 263,000 impressions and giving me a click through rate of about 4% and the average position about 15 and things like increasing slowly. There aren’t too many masses.

Fluctuations for this site. It seems that just day by day is going up and up in terms of traffic, which is great bit surprising, but it’s great. Okay. So why don’t we talk about money? The whole point of doing this is trying to make money. Am I making any money? Let’s see. Okay. So site one is in the last month, it’s only made $22 and 82 cents from Ezoic ads.

And. It’s a bit of a mystery. I’m getting a very low EP MV so on average for the month, it’s only about 2.74. Now I do have to say that looking at the settings, I’m only, I’ve only got Ezoic ads on it. I have a bit of a problem trying to get even Google adsense. Because I didn’t apply for this site before the epidemic, the situation at the moment.

And every time I apply, it says there’s a problem. The website needs to be reviewed. And it’s just, it’s a catch, vicious circle really just goes round and nothing happens. I don’t think anyone’s actually at the Google accents office to do any of this work. So perhaps that’s why I’m not getting that much.

Because they have a feature called mediation here where I believe that kind of means that the different networks, although everything is based on Google, I think the different ad networks can buy for the position. So perhaps you can increase your revenue that way, but I haven’t got that. I’m just reliant on what O’s putting out there in front of my users.

That’s why it’s pretty low. And it doesn’t make sense to me because if we look for example, the 30th. Apparently I got 300 page views and it gave me EPM V of over $4. Whereas the next day where I’m getting 290 page views, not that many, about 12 less, it’s only giving me $3.

No idea why that’s happening. It’s a bit frustrating and to be honest,  I haven’t contacted the rep because although she set it up fine and everything. I dunno. I dunno if she’s very. She doesn’t really listen to me. She keeps telling me, oh, just write content that makes more money. Because you can actually do this, you can check out what pages are bringing you the most money.

I don’t think, I don’t think she really realizes how long it takes for content to rank. That’s not gonna help me in the short term. Anyway, that’s Zoe just over 20 bucks in a month. Woo. If we compare that though to the last month it is going up a little bit. So you can see that the EPM V here went up by about 10%, which is 20 cents, but every penny helps.

Right.  Ezoic at the moment is not working for site one. I don’t wanna put Ezoic on any of my other sites, just in case they tank my TA traffic as well. And I’m really facing it. That dilemma, is it worth 20 bucks to keep ads on this? Should I just bite the bullet and take Zo off the site and just lose out on 20 bucks a month until I can get to maybe a better ad network?

Or is there just like one or two little tweaks that I can make, which will just change. This is something I need to find the time to do. And this is the problem where you take on too much. So if you are thinking about starting that second site, I would say stick with the first one until it’s really making you money.

And then think about a second site. Okay. So in terms of affiliates at the moment, I still really rely on Amazon affiliates. So in the month of July, I got about $51 and this is fairly consistent month to month. It seems to be getting around that $50 mark. So all these earnings are from the, from , the site.

So just to give you an idea of, this year you can see, I didn’t earn much to begin with, but about April, I hit that $50 a month. Mark may have been about 59. Went back to about 55 and is at 51 now. And in August, I’m, I’ve only made 13, so $13 so far. But it’s consistent now because for the most part, the.

For the past three months, the traffic’s been consistent. So all I have to do is try and increase the traffic and perhaps the Amazon revenue will go up as well. In terms of other affiliates. I was making a little bit of money from another affiliate program within my niche. . And then I realized that it was one of these affiliates that sent out checks and my address for some reason had a mistake in it.

So I sent them an email saying, Hey , I need to update my address. And I went, oh wait you don’t live in the United States. I’m like, no. Is that a problem? Yeah, we don’t work with anyone who doesn’t live in the states. So all that money I’d earn. They basically wouldn’t pay me that cuz. They didn’t say anything like this in their terms or conditions.

So I’m finding that within my niche, quite a few of the fill programs are only for people that live in the states. So this is something I need to work around. So at the moment I’m really stuck with Amazon. Okay. So you can see from the stats that I’m building traffic every single month, it’s slow but steady progress.

But the thing is, most of my time is set and spent on building the content. Now, if you listen to any other guru out there, they’re gonna be telling you to spend a lot of time. On content promotion. I don’t do any of that on my site. That’s getting over 13,000 pageviews just after nine months, which by the way, is four times as much traffic as is expected at this stage.

So this site, I don’t do any promotion on social media. I don’t post my links anywhere. It’s just people coming to find me through Google. Now, the only way that I was able to manage. Was to become a Project 24 member. Now this is my personal journey. I’m pretty bad at things like this. I don’t really get basic concepts unless someone really explains it to me and outlines it to me.

And I have something to follow. It’s just me personally, if you are the sort of person that you need a little. Push, you really do want to build your online income, but you don’t really know exactly how to go about it. And even perhaps you’ve tried it before and it didn’t work well, I can really re recommend to you Project 24.

It’s an entire course that teaches you all the skills you need to build an online income, either through blogging, through YouTube, even through a podcast. And it takes you through each step. And there’s lots of mini courses. It’s true. Yeah I can’t recommend it enough and I like it so much that I signed up for the second year, which costs me extra money.

Okay. So if this is something that you are interested in finding out about, maybe you’ve heard about it before, but you are on the fence. Definitely go and check out the webinar. And there’s a link in the description. If you want to use that to go over that. And even if you don’t wanna use my link, go join Project 24.

It really will be the best money you ever have. That’s how I think about it. Okay guys, thanks so much for watching this video. If you are not a subscriber and you’ve liked what you’ve seen, remember that this is all I talk about on this channel. So why not become a subscriber now? And I will see you guys in a future video.

Don’t forget guys, content warrior challenges are coming up, and we’re gonna be talking about it in a video very soon. Bye.
