Youtube video transcript
We launched this YouTube channel on the 2nd of March, 2020. And in the last 30 days, we’ve had more than a hundred subscribers in March. We had 18 in April. We had 76 extra subscribers in May and extra 55, but we’ve only ever had 10 from YouTube search. So what’s going on? How did we manage to do it? As you can see, starting in March, not a lot of subscriber activity until we get to about the 19th of April.
Hello, YouTube, and a very special hello to all my subscribers, my name’s Phil. And welcome to this channel where I document my journey, building an online income. If that’s something that you are interested in doing too, why not subscribe? Cause I try and share everything that I’m. And also a lot of the mistakes I’m making so that you don’t have to.
So today we’re gonna be talking about a YouTube channel that I launched with a colleague at the beginning of March, 2020. And we’re starting to see a little bit of action with the subscribers. There’s a few people subscribing to us, but we’re not actually being discovered through YouTube search that much.
There’s a lot of competition in this niche, but we are promoting it through another. And it’s really working for us. So I wanna talk about that today. Okay. So first of all, let’s just talk about the niche. Michael and I, and you might have met Michael before in a previous video, we are both English teachers and we actually teach an exam called the IELTS.
So this is an exam that you need to take. If you want to study at an English speaking university abroad. Or possibly if you want to immigrate to an English speaking country. So it’s a test where it gives you your level of English and it’s quite particular and you need to take it in a certain way.
And I’ve been teaching this for about three years. I’ve been an English teacher for more than 10 years. So this was a niche that I’m familiar with. And when I was checking. Checked out the niche. I discovered that although it’s very competitive, there’s a lot of people that are not English teachers or not native speakers of English.
Also a lot of students who took the test before that are, have these big YouTube channels. And to be honest, The advice is not always the best and sometimes it’s even down right wrong. So I thought there is a gap in the market. Now, the way that we are promoting the channel is simply through Facebook.
Now, if you are a Project 24 member, you know that Facebook isn’t very good for blogging, but when it comes to YouTube using Facebook, This is a great way to promote your channel. And there are loads and loads of groups for IOPS, and some of them are better than others. I tended to target the ones with a bigger membership and a really good tip here is if you create your own.
Facebook page for your brand, for your YouTube video, your website, whatever. After about 30 days you are able to join Facebook groups. Now it does depend whether or not the admin or the Facebook group allows that. But if you wait about 28 days, keep posting things on the page. When you click to.
It gives you that option of joining with your Facebook page. What I did is I went into these Facebook groups and I started from about the 30th March, just commenting. So people would ask questions or something like this. And I would leave a comment if I had a YouTube video that I could re.
From our channel. I would do that sometimes. I just left the comment. I was trying to build a bit of a reputation and I probably left about 35 comments. So if we have a look at that, for example, I started doing that around the 30th of March, and then I changed it, and changed tactics around the 18th.
Let’s see what that did okay. I. In that time period. I got about 10. Yeah. About 10 subscribers. Is that right? So have a look at the total, do it in a bar chart. It’s often easy to see. Yeah. So I got about 10 extra people and the source of that, as we see here only one came from YouTube search.
So that was obviously from me pushing it now. I should say before I forget that if we look at all of the subscribers from the period, it is true that between say in, in March, in total, we had about 18 subscribers. That was pretty much just friends and family. And my mother-in-law got hold of this channel and she was very proudly pushing on all my extended family.
She keeps telling everyone that I’m a YouTube superstar. I think my wife misleads her a little bit anyway. So basically we didn’t have any real subscribers until I started doing this thing. Okay. So I was commenting from March the 30th. And I probably put about 35 comments.
I went through my Facebook log LA earlier on and that it was about 35. And then I changed tactics. So you can see that from about the nine. 20th of April 2020. We started to get a little bit more subscribers and that’s because I actually published a video, which was actually offering free writing correction.
I only posted this into one Facebook group and it was actually for me because I wanted to test the system I had for doing corrections and how to do it a little less. To make it a little bit more passive. So I just offered that to a few people first come first serve. And although we didn’t actually get a lot of subscribers through this video it seems that if we look at the engagement they reach, sorry.
Yeah, it seems that if we look at the audience for this video, We got most of the subscribers for this 33, it on April the 20th. So what I think happened was they came to the channel and they saw the free writing service. And then they were pushed over to this video, which made them subscribe because that’s normally how it works.
You never subscribe to the first video. So once I saw that working. I started to promote our videos every single time they came out. So at the moment we have a video coming out on Monday and Friday. So normally the day after, or the evening that the video comes out, I go onto the Facebook groups and I start promoting.
So I’ve actually got, so I’m actually a member of 32 Facebook groups at the moment and there’s lots more I can join. And as I mentioned that I can join as myself or I can join as a page. So of those 32 18 of them, I’m joined under my name, Phil 14 under the IOS client, which is the name of the YouTube channel.
But funny enough two of those groups I can’t actually post in because it’s only the admins that are allowed to. But I am allowed to comment and it just so happens that those two groups I can comment as vis grind. So I think that’s fine because people will hopefully see my answers on being helpful and drive them over to the YouTube channel.
The other thing is seven of the groups I keep posting in them, but my posts are always pending. So I think one of them, I have nine pending. But still I keep posting in them because even if it takes a while and the admin suddenly comes alive they’re gonna see that I’m being helpful, that I’m not a spammy kind of person.
And hopefully they will allow those posts talking of spammy people. The reason why I think this is working so well is because, so I posted this video of Michael back on the 12th of May and immediately I got comments from people. So I got Mark Brian here, basically trying to sell illegal certificates.
And then Brian Henderson, all that, that a coincidence, isn’t it? Yeah, assured leaked questions. So a lot of the content in these Facebook groups for IOPS at least is spam. It’s either spam. It’s not useful or it’s misleading. So the fact that Michael and I are real tutors, real teachers of IATs, and we actually do know the answers just by sharing.
I think we are setting ourselves apart from most of the information people get. So that’s why I think it’s working so well. So my advice is that you go into whatever niche you’re in and you join as many Facebook groups and you just promote your videos in a very organic way. Although I am posting the videos every time they come out, they’re.
I always post them as something useful. Do you struggle to get a high score and task one writing, especially when you have to describe change over time from line graphs? This is something that students suffer with. So we created a video for that and it’s a real pain point that we are trying to help people with.
So rather than just pushing any old nonsense, really understand what your. The people in your niche you want, we can do that by joining Facebook groups and interacting with them and then give them the answers they need or the solutions they need. So I can’t say that I came up with all of these ideas on my own.
In fact, I am a member of Project 24, which is set up by income school. And within this course, they have lots of mini courses, but the two sort of pillars of their method are 60 steps to blogging. And now if you haven’t seen any of my other videos talking about my progress with my three websites, you can check them out in the description or a pillar card up here.
But the one I’ve been following here is 60 steps to success on YouTube. And it’s really working and promoting at a particular level. It’s something that Jim and Ricky recommend. So I can’t recommend this course enough. In fact yesterday the day before I actually renewed for the second year, it’s really worth the money.
And if you are struggling at all to build your websites, get more traffic or to build up a YouTube channel, then I would recommend you go over and purchase that there is actually a link in the description. It is an affiliate. If you do buy, I do get a commission which really helps me out. I always put that money back into my.
but even if you don’t buy through my link, go get it. I think it’s actually on sale for another day. And then the price will go back up. So now is the perfect time. Although the fact that we are getting a lot of subscribers and we’ve pretty much gone up as you can see here. More than a hundred in the last 28 days.
And that is literally me just promoting it in Facebook groups. And it doesn’t take that long. Actually. It’s about 15 minutes, 20 minutes twice a week. It doesn’t take me a long time at all. But saying that if we look at the, so the lifetime numbers, and remember we only really launched on the 2nd of March.
It was the first video that went out. So you can see that YouTube searches for only 10 subscribers through that. So if we look at the traffic source here, so YouTube search, we’re only getting about 3%, which isn’t great because we want YouTube to find us to recommend us, but I think I’m hoping.
By pushing people to the channel, we’re gonna gain a bit of a reputation. People will start following us. And the more subscribers we have. The more views we get, and hopefully we will cuz we keep producing videos just for YouTube search at the moment. Hopefully we’re gonna find that real crack in the market where we can show what we’re made of and then YouTube, we’re gonna start recommending our videos.
So it is early days. I know that 147 subscribers aren’t going to pay the rent, but it’s a. And I really recommend that you do the same thing. If you are not producing YouTube videos, if you haven’t created a YouTube channel yet, go do it. Now is the perfect time. If you can do it with a friend or a colleague, Trust me, it makes it a lot easier and it’s a lot more fun.
Okay guys, if you haven’t subscribed to the channel yet, maybe you should do that now. And give me a if you’ve got any questions at all, perhaps you’ve seen something in the figures that you wanna ask about and or any questions you’ve got, don’t forget to leave a comment. And just one more thing that I wanted to talk about is in addition to YouTube search and.
Being very high. Also our view durations are quite low. You might have noticed that now. I think that’s because we get a lot more people looking at the videos on Facebook and not actually coming through to YouTube and watching the whole thing. I am aware of that and it’s something we’re gonna fix.
Anyway, guys, in the next video, I’m gonna be talking about my one year anniversary in Project 24. I’m gonna be tearing up. My first project, 24 website parts looking at all the numbers and the figures, and hopefully revealing a few little secrets that you guys can use to get to your target of building a full-time income from the internet.
So you can quit your job, okay. See you guys next time. Thanks for reading.
